Discover the wonderfully intriguing ritual of feeding the dead as you explore the "street of the dead” of old Singapore. This unique locale brings to you a mosaic of color and intrigue as you discover the artistry of paper houses, cars, electronics, all delicately made as offerings to ancestors and loved ones who have passed on in life. Historically a place where the sick went to die, the place continues to offer remnants of the past including a healthy offering of favorite food offerings.
The best time to experience this ritual is during the Hungry Ghost Festival, which has its origins in placating spirits released from the underworld with food offerings. During this time, families will dedicate feasts in honor of their ancestors with offering and prayer on the night before the full moon.
